About Holly DiBella-McCarthy:
Holly DiBella-McCarthy is an award-winning New England children’s author, educator, and creative storyteller who loves inspiring young readers through fun, meaningful adventures. Through her charming Dilly Duck book series and her publishing brand, Book Chatter Press, Holly creates stories that entertain children while also teaching important lessons about kindness, teamwork, nature, and caring for the world around us.
Inspired by her love of storytelling, animals, and helping children learn through imagination, Holly brings her books to life with interactive events that encourage families to spend quality time together away from screens and out in the community. 1. How did you become a children’s book author?
My journey began with many years in education as a teacher, administrator, and professor. I’ve always loved helping children learn, and I wanted to turn that passion into stories that make important skills fun. My Dilly Duck series was inspired by my childhood pet, Dilly! When my granddaughter was born, I created a simple black-and-white songbook for her, and it has since become a popular gift for new babies.
2. Do you create your own illustrations?
I work closely with talented illustrators to bring my stories to life. In picture books, illustrations tell a big part of the story, so it is important to me that they match the heart of each book. I collaborate with my illustrators every step of the way, sometimes going through many revisions to get each detail just right.
3. What ages are your books and activities best for?
My books are designed for children from birth through age 8, with a focus on early learning and building confidence. My stories and activities are especially engaging for preschool and early elementary-aged children. I also offer free, fun extension activities on my website.
